How it began

A couple of months ago I was feeling bored, yes that is just it.

I had plenty of things to do but I needed a creative outlet. So while chatting to a friend I told him that I wanted to design my own game but I did not have inspiration for a theme.

He told me to go for an arabian nights/cyberpunk based theme. I liked this a lot and we started discussing how this would work etc.

Turns out he had several vague ideas that were more or less advanced, mostly just in his mind.

So I kicked into action and immediately created some shared folders. I was still working a bit of CyberNights but it went a bit slow. At the same time we were talking about another project and my friend decided to write a blurb about his ideas of a game.

This triggered a lot of inspiration (I like brainstorming) and we started going back and forth while slowly a basic rule-set emerged.

This project with code-name BDB is slowly taking off, we both have our personal lives that keep intervening but we are grinding on it and 3 months into the process I can safely say that we have a basic ruleset and we are working on the last couple of cards that are needed in order to start playtesting (I already made blanks 😉 )

All in all it is a slow but exciting process and I am learning a lot on the way.

Best case scenario we’ll have our names on a box and we’ll be sold in shops. Worst case scenario we’ll have a nice game we enjoy playing ourselves and we have learned a lot about game-design in the process.

Seems like win win for me.

Game design

Hello fellow internaut,

This is my first post on a blog, ever.

I have started a new venture: together with a friend I started designing games. We are in the first processes, it is a lot of fun but we are both discovering a whole new world as we go about it.

We are avid gamers ourselves having spent a lot of games and we want to try our hand at something like this.

In this blog I will try to capture some of my discoveries and experiences. Hopefully to be funny to read back in a couple of years, or if all goes very well to help other people that try to get into this profession/hobby as well.

This not a plan to get rich anytime soon. The idea is to create fun games that we can get published and hopefully spead out through our gaming community.

With or without the use of Kickstarter. That is another big question mark.

First thing up though, create our game and playtest it till it breaks, rebuild and play some more.
